Following the River Beneath the River
The Sacred Medicine Experience has come to a close, and as participants return to their home countries, I remain here, sitting with the echoes of what was shared, woven, and transformed. Every journey is unique, yet there is always something that flows beneath it. A deeper movement, a story waiting to be told, a current guiding us home.
For myself, I follow the river beneath the river—the unseen thread that moves through our time together, shaping the experience in ways we cannot plan or predict. Each participant carries a story within them, even if they are unaware of it at first. My role is to listen, not just with my ears, but with my entire being, to the way this story reveals itself. I watch how synchronicities unfold, how themes emerge through different voices, how the land itself speaks to us through unexpected moments. The more I lean into this, the more I see how everything is already in motion. There is nothing to force, only something to witness, to allow, to become.
This is the essence of the Sacred Medicine Experience: allowing all that is to be. To drop out of the mind’s need for control and into the rhythm of life itself. In this, we meet the present moment fully. We are in the Now.
The Web of Life & The Wisdom of Slowing Down
The Wisdomkeepers of the Maasai understand this well. Their way of moving through life is one of attunement—to the land, the stars, the unseen energies that weave us all together. They do not rush forward to grasp at what they want. Instead, they lean in. They listen. They trust the web of life and the current that moves through it.
This river beneath the river requires us to slow down. To become still inside. Only then can we feel it, receive it, and allow it to carry us. It is a completely different way of walking through the world—one where we are not pushing against life, but instead surrendering to the natural flow.
When we align ourselves to this current, we no longer need to chase, force, or struggle. Instead, we receive. And in that receiving, we allow life itself to guide us. This is the way of deep trust, of sacred presence, of living in harmony with the greater whole.
Making Life Sacred
During our time together, one of the participants shared something that touched me deeply. As I spoke about the sacredness of things, he said, “No, you make it sacred.”
And I realized yes...
Sacredness is not something that exists outside of us, waiting to be found. It is in the way we choose to see. In the way we sit with the land, with each other. In how we open our hearts and take life in with reverence. It is in the way we slow down, breathe, and allow ourselves to be fully here.
The river beneath the river is the current I follow. It is the sacred flow of life that carries me onward, and I am endlessly grateful to those who join me in experiencing it.
As I close this journey and prepare for the next, I do so with deep reverence. I know that once again, a new story will emerge. A new current will reveal itself. And we will listen, together.
I can’t wait for the next group to step into this space. To slow down. To listen. To follow the whispers beneath the surface. To align with the sacred current of life and allow it to guide us home.
Love, Cindy
